Being Served

So many have come and offered to help and asked what they could to to serve our family. The 11 year old scouts showed up on Tuesday to mow our lawn. Justin does a great job, but a blade of the mower had gotten bent and cut some funky patterns in the grass. This was something that needed to be done, so they did it. We have been so blessed by the prayers, kindness and outpouring of love from so many. It is humbling.

Barry's Burn 10 days later

This is kind of graphic...but here it is. The burn is healing as it should, the red around is actually more pink, but no sign of infection. The white part is dead skin with dermal pegs still intact which means the skin has the ability to still grow back. We hope that it continues to heal as it has done thus far.

Chickens and Boys

Three boys, three chicks and all in a great big tub. The boys love their chicks. Since we got them young, they are used to being held and love to sit on their shoulders and heads. Occasionally they leave surprises behind, but for the most part are very well behaved. They roam about the yard and eat bugs and roost in a safe pen at night.

One week after accident - spending most of the day in bed can get rather boring. Making the best of it!


Barry was a very good hospital patient. We got to know most of the staff and had quite a list of great nurses and doctors to thank.


Bryce did not want to go back to the property until Barry could walk again and go with him. He was always so eager to go any time Barry went up there. I asked him to come with me and get some pictures before the tractor got turned back over.


Barry was pinned under the engine, where the hood is most dented is where his legs were. The black on the ground is the oil and fuel that spilled out and burned his legs and soaked his pants. This was the reason for the fear of fire while the tractor was still running.

Cailyn in Fiji after first week - no pictures yet!

Dear Fiji 2 Parents,



It is Friday evening in Fiji and the group has just returned from a stake dance with the Suva stake. This has been a very busy and exciting week. We spent all five days working at the Mau village and it has been a fantastic experience. Each of our youth is working alongside at least 4 of the Mau villagers to build the bathrooms for 6 houses. The Mau men had a difficult time letting our young women use a shovel and hammer as this is not considered women’s work here. They have slowly warmed up to the idea as they have gained confidence in what our young ladies can do. As of today all the septic tanks have been built (dug out and a brick tank hand constructed). We have also framed in the bathrooms and are awaiting the paneling to complete the bathrooms.



Our days consist of hard work and our evenings have been busy with activities. Monday night we had FHE in ten of the homes of the Navua ward. Our youth gave the lessons in the homes. We had a little “miracle” occur when one group knocked on the “wrong” door and were invited in by a man that said he had been praying that the Lord would send someone to him at that moment.. Tuesday the Suva 3 ward hosted us for dinner and put on a fantastic cultural night – they performed over 15 dances. Tori, “J” and Jocelyn represented our group by putting on a great display of Irish river dance.



Wednesday we had sports night with the Suva institute students with games of basketball, volleyball and rugby all being played at the same time. Thursday was the highlight of the week as we attended Derek’s eagle scout project of outfitting a rugby team at a local school and then all headed to the beautiful Suva temple for baptismal work. It was a beautiful experience to see the entire group all dressed in white.



Saturday will be a break for the group as we will go on a jungle canopy zip line from tree to tree and then head for the beach to catch our own lunch (fish) using a surf net together as a group. We plan to cheer for our Mau village rugby team later in the day at the area tournament.



This is a fantastic group and everyone is getting along so great. No one has had any problems from the food and the weather has been fantastic. We couldn’t have hoped for more. Our youth have so much they want to share with you have we hope to some time to email you on your Saturday.
